MWA State Webinar: What you Need to Know About Writing and Submitting Short Stories

March 15, 2025
2:00 PM - 3:30 PM

MWA Webinar Series

How Does an Editor Think and Feel? This interactive presentation will examine the submission process, from finding the best places for one’s fiction to the tips on writing a cover letter. Evgeniya will draw on her experience serving on the editorial panel at the New England Review, Joyland, and The Threepenny Review to speak about the ways editors engage with the submissions they receive and how they ultimately make the decision to accept or pass on a story. The presentation will include practical examples, a helpful analysis of successful short story openings, and a brief writing prompt.

Evgeniya Dame is a former Stegner Fellow in Fiction and has taught writing at Stanford University, the University of New Hampshire, and for Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance. She has received her MFA at the University of New Hampshire where she was a Fulbright Fellow. Her fiction has appeared in Zoetrope: All-Story, Ploughshares, Virginia Quarterly Review, The Southern Review, Subtropics, and elsewhere. Her non-fiction has been published in Electric Literature and online in the New England Review. She serves as an Associate Editor at The Threepenny Review. Evgeniya grew up in Samara, Russia and currently lives in Berkeley.

A Zoom Link will be emailed to registrants and members the morning of the webinar. A replay will be available to members and registrants for a limited time.
