Let us Slam!

January 16, 2021
1:00 PM - 2:30 PM

Slam poetry and Spoken Word have taken over YouTube and now Zoom much to the chagrin of the traditional poet, but even the traditional poet can enjoy a good slam competition. T. S. Eliott may have been the first ‘Slam Master’ of American history, speaking his poems, often of a political slant, in the early 1900’s. What do Eliott and a Chicago construction worker have in common? This workshop will explore the history of slam poetry and review the works of ‘Old Possum’ and ‘Slampapi'.

Patti Ross graduated from The Duke Ellington School for the Performing Arts. After a brief career in the arts and journalism she began raising a family. Since moving to Maryland, Patti has rediscovered her love of writing and is sharing her voice as the spoken word artist "little pi." Her debut chapbook, St. Paul Street Provocations, will be released in 2021 by Yellow Arrow Publishing. You can follow her blog at:
