St. Mary's/Calvert: Mauled Men, Drowned Dames & Crispy Critters: A Body Disposal Primer for Writers

October 24, 2020
1:00 PM - 2:30 PM

St. Mary's & Calvert Counties Chapter Zoom Meeting

https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81927145667

Program: You absolutely HAVE to kill someone to make your plot work. You have to tangle everyone up over wills, funerals, murder, mysterious death or serious mayhem. Someone’s got to die.
But once you’ve shot, lasered, run over, burned or otherwise silenced that nagging dead guy, then what? You have to do SOMETHING with the body. Is an autopsy necessary? What about a funeral and burial? Lots of plot possibilities, but the details! Did you know that it’s nearly impossible to bury someone in Maine in February? Were you aware that most states require “two containers” – a vault and a casket? What about the timing? If a body appears on Friday, can you bury them on Sunday? (Usually not!) How long does it take to arrange a wake, funeral, and burial? Do you know the difference between a coffin and a casket?
Find out everything you ever wanted to know about the pernicious particulars of what happens to a body after death and how you can use the legion of minutiae to trip up your characters, throw them together or drive them apart. Learn about embalming, burying, vaults, cremation, reconstructive cosmetics, coroner’s reports, death certificates and more at this get-the-basics seminar!

Presenter: Jeanne Adams writes award-winning romantic suspense, paranormal and urban fantasies, as well as space opera that’s been compared to the works of Robert Heinlein and Jack McDevitt. She’s also a sought-after speaker, teaching classes on body disposal for writers, worldbuilding and collaboration, plotting for pantzers and how to write a fight scene that works. Featured in Cosmopolitan Magazine, and other publications, her books have been consistently hailed as “One of the best Suspense Books of the Year!” by Romantic Times and “Stunningly realistic space adventure” by Amazon reviewers.
