April 2018 Notable Maryland Author Tom Clancy

Thomas Leo Clancy Jr. (1947 – 2013)

"The human condition today is better than it's ever been, and technology is one of the reasons for that."

Tom Clancy was an American novelist responsible for creating the Espionage Techno Thriller genre. Like most new authors, Mr. Clancy, in 1984, was fully employed in one profession (a successful insurance salesman in Towson, MD) and found enjoyment and challenge in writing in his spare time, mostly at night.

His first novel The Hunt for Red October described the attempt of a Russian Submarine Captain to defect, along with his submarine, to the United States without getting sunk by either the United States or Russian Navies. It was read and published by The Naval Institute Press in Annapolis, MD and had modest sales until President Reagan mention he was reading the book and couldn’t put it down. Then his sales shot through the roof.

Genre – Espionage Techno Thriller
