Sharon Lee was born in Baltimore, Maryland, graduated from Parkville Senior High School in 1970, and worked her way through the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She is a science fiction, fantasy and mystery author. She married in 1980 and move with her husband, Steve Miller, to Winslow, Maine in 1988. One year later she co-authored the Liaden Universe novels and stories, with Steve, and has not stopped writing. Her interest in science fiction and fantasy resulted in her serving as the executive director of the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America for three years. Fantasy is distinguished from science fiction and horror by the absence of scientific or macabre themes. Currently, fantasy seems to focus on medieval formats.  Most fantasy uses magic or other supernatural elements as a main plot element, theme, or setting.  Magical creatures are common in many of these worlds. Many fantasy authors use real-world folklore and mythology as inspiration
