November 2020 Notable Author: Eileen McIntire

Writing is the perfect career for the lifelong learner because you’d better be.” Eileen McIntire

Eileen Haavik McIntire, author of the 90s Club mystery series, knows one thing for sure. The Nancy Drew she loved reading about as a child would still be piling up clues like tricks in a bridge game at age 90. Nancy Drew inspired the 90s Club series where Nancy Dickenson and her 90s Club cronies at Whisperwood Retirement Village are still on the job, solving mysteries and saving lives—even their own.

“I met a slim, attractive woman at a pool party who’d been swimming laps,” says Eileen, “and later learned she was 90 years old! That opened my eyes, and I began collecting articles about people in their 90s—and 100s—who are running marathons, winning tennis tournaments and canoe races and publishing their books. The 90’s Club series is helping erase the myths and stereotypes that set elderly people apart from the rest of the population.” Eileen also writes historical and suspense novels and has traveled for research. She has ridden a camel in the Moroccan Sahara, fished for piranhas in the Amazon, sailed in a felucca on the Nile, stayed overnight in a mountain hut in Ethiopia, and spent three years on a motorsailer.

She is immediate past president of the Maryland Writers’ Association (MWA) and an enthusiastic member of Sisters in Crime. She and her husband, Dr. Roger McIntire, own Summit Crossroads Press, which publishes his books for parents, and the fiction imprint, Amanita Books They live in Columbia, MD, with their little dog José. Learn more at:
